Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited landscape architecture program

• 0-5 years applicable experience

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, MS Office, Rhino, and Sketch-up

• Proficient organizational and time management skills

• The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment

• Strong verbal and written communications skills required

 

Responsibilities: 

• Work as part of a team, including collaboration with contractors & allied professionals

• Assist with drafting and schematic design presentation graphics

• Field / site work

• Planting design

• Design development and construction detailing

​Landscape Architecture Seasonal Worker

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is now accepting applications for Landscape Architecture paid internship roles in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Division of Highway Design, Landscape Design Unit.

 

Positions are full-time, in the Newington, CT office Monday through Friday and include field work on construction sites and highway/roadway environments.  

 

Interns will work under the supervision of licensed Landscape Architects and gain exposure to the Connecticut DOT's project development and implementation process. Computer applications used may include MicroStation, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other applications. In addition to the Landscape Design Unit staff, interns will interact with Environmental Planners, Highway and Bridge designers, and Civil Engineers.

 

Duties:

• Preparing the landscape design components of transportation projects including development of planting designs, specifications, and construction details for contract plans

• Participating in field work with the Landscape Design Unit staff

• Developing CAD generated landscape plans and details

• Producing visual graphics

• Assisting in other project development and management tasks

 

Position Highlights:

• Anticipated start date in May of 2025 and ending by August 31, 2025

• Monday-Friday, first shift

• 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, temporary (not eligible for benefits or paid holidays)

• Location: based in Newington

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• A driver's license is required

• Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Landscape Architecture and completing sophomore year (minimum) by May 2025

Summer 2025 Landscape Design Internship

Are you passionate about transforming outdoor spaces into stunning residential landscapes? We're seeking a motivated and creative Landscape Design Intern to join our team this summer. This internship offers hands-on experience in residential landscape design, providing an opportunity to work alongside seasoned professionals in a collaborative environment.

Opportunity:

The Summer Internship Program provides an opportunity to gain design experience in a collaborative open studio setting. Interns will be exposed to and can develop interests in various aspects of residential landscape architecture. Our interns integrate into small projects teams and play a role in schematic and design development, client presentations, construction detailing, permitting, bidding, permitting, and site inspections.

As an intern, you will also engage in our office activities including occasional social outings. We work hard and like to have fun!

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and development of residential landscape projects in a team under the guidance of experienced designers.

• Contribute to conceptual designs, master plans, and detailed construction drawings.

• Conduct site analysis and research to support design decisions.

• Collaborate with team members and affiliated professionals to refine design solutions based on client needs and project requirements.

• Gain exposure to project management processes, including client meetings, site visits, and project documentation.

 

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a landscape architecture program.

• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Lumion, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

• Strong graphic and presentation skills to effectively communicate design ideas.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Knowledge of plant materials, construction techniques, site engineering and sustainable design principles.

• Enthusiasm for residential landscape design and a desire to learn and grow within the field.
